There are three gold deposits close to the Laiva mine – Kaukainen and Musunneva about 2 kilometres from the Laiva mine and Oltava, some 12 kilometres from the mine. Samples collected at Oltava indicate gold levels of the same levels as those measured at the Laiva mine.
After initial moraine samples had been collected and analysed in 2008 and 2009, Nordic Mines conducted exploration drilling using the "Borruggla" drilling rig in Oltava, 12 kilometres south of the Laiva deposit, in 2010-2011.
In total, 1,194 holes have been drilled to date. These preliminary studies to define the mineralisation in the top bedrock is performed in the following way: samples were taken from the top and bottom moraine as well as from the bedrock down to a depth of 1.5-2 metres. The drill holes were drilled in a drilling net with 25 metres between the holes and 25-50 metres between the profiles.
The average gold content in these 1,194 holes was 0.050 grammes per tonne. Out of these, 91 analyses of samples takes from the top bedrock has shown contents of more 0.1 grammes per tonne. For more details, please go to Oltava PBH resultat 2012 xls
