Methods for analysis

Here you will find a description of the methods and laboratories that Nordic Mines use as well as of how they perorm their tests. The Tecnical reports section includes a detailed description of the methods for calculating the Mineral resources and Ore reserve.

Analyses of surface till and bedrock

Exploration drilling is perforned using Nordic Mines' own drilling rig. The top hammer drilling has a drilling diameter of 76 mm in till and 68 mm in rock. The sample size is 1 kilo, both in till and rock metres.

The surface samples are prepared and analysed at Pioneer Laboratories (a non-ackredited laboratory). Preparation and analysis at Pioneer: In the multi-element ICP analysis, 0.500 grams of the sample is mixed with 3 ml of aqua regia, diluted with 10 ml of water. The gold analysis is performed on 20 grams' of sample mixed with aqua regia, MIBK extracted and analysed with atomic absorption.

The bedrock samples are analysed at the ALSChemex laboratory in Piteå or at Outokumpu. The preparation and analysis at ALS Chemex is performed according to the following routine; drying of samples at 100–110°C, crushing down to 70 percent < 2 mm, splitting down to 250 grams, grinding into powder, 50 grams of the sample analysed according to Au-ICP 22.

 

Analyses of drill cores

The drill cores are sawed lengthwise, half of the core is sent for analysis, the rest of the core saved for reference. The analyses are based on one metre sections. If any part of the drill core has not been analysed, the gold content has been shown as zero. The analyses of drill cores that were performed by 

Outokumpu up to 1986 were analysed at Outokumpu's own laboratory. The analyses of drill cores after 1986 have been performed at the laboratories of the Finnish state (GTK) (Ackredited according to FINAS) and at ALS Chemex' laboratories (Ackredited according to Standards Council of Canada no 579).

GTK´s preparation and analysis are performed according to the following schedule: Drying of samples at 70°C, crushing, grinding, 50 grams of the sample in Pb-fire assay, analysis of gold with the ICP-AES method. ALS Chemex' preparation and analysis are performed according to the following schedule: Drying of samples at 100–110°C, crushing down to 70 percent < 2 mm, splitting down to 250 grams, grinding into powder, 50 grams of sample analysed according to Au-ICP 22.
